Feminism in suburbia
I think I am becoming more and more of a feminist.
Today we were eating dinner: my parents, my sister, my sister's boyfriend, and myself. I watched the events around me like someone trapped in a bubble, a snow globe surrounded by this gently tilting planet. The men, seated and eating. The women bustling around like bees, clearing away dishes, bringing forth the meal, were almost invisible as the men carried on conversation. The men, sitting and eating their desserts.
I could not prevent the thought: I will never be part of this. I will never be the busy housewife, entertaining and feeding guests, preparing the house for visitors; I will never be a baby making machine. I will never debase my gender by conforming to this.
